Dear Friends in Christ,

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is a Christian community providing loving faith formation, service, fellowship, and worship for over 160 years. We are delighted to welcome you here and are so grateful for your visit.

You might be curious about who we are at Emmanuel. We are a small church – in size, but not in heart. We strive to be a welcoming and inclusive community. While many of our parishioners grew up at Emmanuel, with deep ties to the community, Emmanuel also draws worshipers from throughout the metropolitan Richmond area. Our beautiful 17-acre campus provides an oasis for worship, service, contemplation, and play.

Perhaps you’ll join us for worship. Our intimate sanctuary provides multiple opportunities for worship each week. Perhaps you are a gardener with an eye to community service. Our regionally recognized FOOD Faith Garden is a community garden with plots available for families and organizations in our area. Perhaps you love exploring history and the lives of those who’ve gone before us. If that’s the case, we hope you’ll spend some time in our historic cemetery.

The people of Emmanuel are dedicated to exploring new ways to reach out and share the good news of Christ and to find the many ways that we might live into our name, Emmanuel, which means “God with us”.

We are growing and we hope you’ll grow with us. Wherever you may be in your faith journey, please know that there is a place for you here at Emmanuel.

Blessings +

Welcome to Emmanuel Episcopal Church

Emmanuel is a vibrant Christian community steeped in tradition with an eye to the future. As a parish we celebrate our faith by providing worship services and programs that feed our Christian spirit. We are committed to preparing each other, our children and youth to be followers of Christ, and seek to serve Christ faithfully through service to our community.

Sunday Worship

10:00 AM – Holy Eucharist, Rite II

What to Expect

Our worship service typically lasts about an hour. The Book of Common Prayer is a liturgical guide used in the Episcopal church. Our service encourages all to participate with responses, lessons, prayers, and hymns throughout our service. Each week, we prepare a full service bulletin, so that all may join in with meditation and prayer, even if our liturgy is new to you.

What We Believe

Emmanuel is an Episcopal Church and as such is deeply rooted in a tradition of prayer, theological exploration, joyful and affirming worship and service. Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. We believe in love. We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being.

We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.
